Golden Privet Hedging Plants

Ligustrum Ovalifolium Aureum, Golden Privet Hedge

Golden Privet or Ligustrum Ovalifolium Aureum is an excellent alternative to the standard green privet hedge. Suitable choice for a formal hedge and they also make super topiary. Golden Privet hedges will have their best colour if planted in full sun. Golden Privet are easy to grow, easy to maintain and very reliable. Privet is semi- evergreen so will hold onto its leaves except over hard winters or in coastal areas. Golden Privet is a fast growing plant with oval, rich yellow leaves often marked green in the centre. Small creamy white flowers form in summer though normally only if left unclipped. The flowers would be followed by black berries for the birds in Winter. Repeated clipping in summer produces the best specimen hedges and topiary. Golden Privet can be cut hard in spring to restore shape and keep the hedge within bounds. Golden Privet would be an excellent choice for a easy to maintain boundary hedge with a bright golden contrast to the many greens of the garden.
