Hawthorn is an excellent hedging plant that thrives under all but the wettest soil and site conditions. It forms an impenetrable barrier, much loved by wildlife for protection, and the red fruits or haws produced in autumn. It has dark, glossy green leaves and an abundance of white, fragrant flowers in spring.

  • any soil (except waterlogged).
  • Growth rate: 45 cm per annum
Hedge plant spacing guide
Plant at 9 – 12 inches (20 - 30cm) apart or for a denser or stock-proof hedge plant in a staggered double row 18in (45cm) apart and 15in (35cm) between rows.
