Western Hemlock / Tsuga heterophylla

A exceptionally shade tolerant species of conifer with attractive flat needle like foliage. It can be grown on a wide variety of soils except those containing chalk. Can be grown out in the open, though appreciates a little protection from fierce winds. Can be kept at any height and width if trimmed regularly.

Sun or shade
Any moisture retaining soil except chalky.
Growth rate: 60cm per annum

Plant at 18in – 24in (45 - 60cm) apart for hedges 6 foot upwards.
