Common Laurels are also known as Cherry Laurel as they produce berries resembling cherries and have leaves similar to that of the bay laurel. Laurels are one of the most popular evergreen hedging plants as they are fast growing, dense and evergreen. Laurel plants are very versatile and will grow well in most conditions being tolerant of shade and dry soils. Laurel hedges are usually quick to establish and are therefore often favoured as an economical option when balancing time and budget. Laurel plants produce clusters of fragrant white flowers in Spring that contrast well with the glossy green leaves. Red berries are occasionally produced in autumn, though both the leaves and berries can be harmful if eaten. Laurel is an excellent choice for a fast growing evergreen hedge or screen.

Rootballed plants are available in bigger sizes from October through to April, weather dependent. These plants are grown in bigger sizes going up to 3 metres in height. Rootballed plants are lifted during the plants dormant period. This reduces the amount of stress imposed on the plants and increases the chances of successful re-establishment. Plants are also lifted to order to minimise the time they are stored out of the ground before replanting. Although rootball plants may seem expensive many of these plants will be between 6-15 years old and will have been root pruned and trimmed many times before they are lifted. Rootball plants tend to be bushier than pot grown plants as they have been out in the field and more exposed to the elements. They are lifted from the field using specialist machinery and the soil rootball is hessian wrapped to protect it. This protective wrapping should be left on at planting and will naturally bio degrade.
All our laurel hedging plants are container grown and will have a fully intact and undisturbed root system. They will establish quicker than root-balled plants with fewer losses as there has been no disturbance to the root system.
